Franchise tale of the tape: Rocks vs. Fish

Since joining the National League as expansion cousins in 1993, the Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins have been linked.
So 21 years later -- and in the midst of their season-opening four-game series -- what better time to examine a 16-item tale of the tape (covering the 21 seasons spanning '93 through 2013) and see who's ahead: Rocks or Fish?
Bear with me through this longer-than-usual post . . .

All-time win percentage: Rockies .472 (1,575-1,765), Marlins .468 (1,566-1,768)
Notable: Real close with Colorado owning nine more wins and only three fewer losses.
Advantage: Slightest of edges to Rocks

All-time run differential: Rockies -749 (17,020-17,769), Marlins -1,111 (14,422-15,533)
Notable: What's the least ugly: The Rockies' 5.32 runs allowed per game or the Marlins' 4.33 runs scored per outing?
Advantage: Rocks

Managers (min. 50 games): Marlins 11, Rockies 6
Notable: Doing the quick math, that's a new manager every 1.9 seasons for Miami/Florida.
Advantage: Stability edge to Rocks

Franchise name changes: Marlins 1, Rockies 0
Notable: The Marlins celebrated their 20th season by switching from Florida to Miami. Guess the Rockies are more comfortable in their regional identity.
Advantage: Rocks

Head-to-head: Marlins lead, 87-84
Notable: The Rockies hold a 52-35 series lead in the Mile High City but are only 32-52 in the Sunshine State.
Advantage: Fish

Winning seasons: Rockies 7, Marlins 6
Notable: Neither has finished above .500 since 2010.
Advantage: Slight edge to Rocks

Postseason appearances: Rockies 3, Marlins 2
Notable: Five playoff berths in 42 combined seasons doesn't exactly speak to success.
Advantage: Again, a slight nod to the Rocks

Division titles: None for either.
Notable: These are the only two of the current 30 MLB franchises which haven't won a division.
Advantage: A rather ugly draw

NL pennants: Marlins 2, Rockies 1
Notable: Two postseason appearances, two National League pennants for the South Beach crew.
Advantage: Fish

World Series titles: Marlins 2, Rockies 0
Notable: Two postseason appearances, two championships for the South Beachers.
Advantage: Decidedly, Fish

All-Star Game selections/starters: Rockies 40/15, Marlins 40/3
Notable: Surprisingly, only two Marlins -- third baseman Gary Sheffield ('93) and shortstop Hanley Ramirez ('08-'10) -- have started in the Mid-Summer Classic.
Advantage: Rocks

MVP awards: Rockies 1, Marlins 0
Notable: Blake Street Bomber Larry Walker won in 1997 for Colorado.
Advantage: Rocks

Cy Young awards: None for either.
Notable: Could Miami young gun Jose Fernandez be the first winner for either franchise this season?
Advantage: None

Rookie-of-the-Year honors: Marlins 4, Rockies 1
Notable: Starting with pitcher Dontrelle Willis in '03 and going through Fernandez last season, four of the past 11 NL awards have went to the Marlins.
Advantage: Fish

Top-five NL attendance finishes: Rockies 11, Marlins 3
Notable: Colorado led the majors in attendance in each of its first seven seasons, while the Marlins have finished last or next-to-last in the NL in 12 of their 21 seasons.
Advantage: Sizable decision for the Rocks

Home ballpark names: Marlins 6, Rockies 2
Notable: From Joe Robbie to Land Shark to Marlins Park, there's been a change every couple seasons for the Fishes.
Advantage: Rocks

OVERALL: Rockies 10, Marlins 4 (2 draws)
Notable: Yeah, the two World Series titles loom kind of large, but the Marlins' instability, identity issues and attendance woes tip the scales in favor of . . .
Advantage: Rocks
